Anyone that has watched the Star Trek shows would probably have heard about the Borg. A collection of species that have been turned into cybernetic organisms functioning as drones of the Collective, or the hive. The famous message from any encounter included “We are the Borg. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.”
One of the long term slogans of one of the political party in Bulgaria has been “We are the GERB” and the similarities are often funny. GERB was in power for three and a half year from late 2009 until early 2013. One of the main political leaders and you might say the strongest is the leader of GERB, Mr. Boyko Borisov. The governing tactics of GERB were to enforce a punishment focused system to deal with every issue and to make GERB a venue for advancement to public sector jobs as well as for business success.
Now we have elections in Bulgaria in just over one week, on 5 October, and going by the opinion polls and the political reality in Bulgaria then GERB will lead the next government. Not that the other options in the elections are that good. At most people can vote on different approaches as the last government which was led by the socialists had somewhat different way of doing things. In the end most Bulgarians will be voting against a party and not for a particular party.
So has the time of the Borg come again in Bulgaria?
